Charity Wine & Cheese Night

Our final 2017 event and one of the classiest nights of the year – our Charity Wine & Cheese Night was held last Friday (20th of October). We had a lovely turn out, a night of friends, fun and food and continued with an afterparty at the Jade Buddha!

Our raffle prizes included: a $300 pet photography voucher from Hairypants Photography, a $100 Customs House voucher, a $65 Victoria Park putt-putt voucher and a $50 Brew coffee voucher. A big thank you to all our wonderful donors and sponsors!

All proceeds from this night are to be donated to the incredible Micah Projects. They are a local non-profit organization that provides services for vulnerable or disadvantaged individuals, including: the homeless; victims of institutional child abuse; those with disabilities; and those with mental health illnesses.

PDW2: Conflict Resolution through Negotiation

SWIM is super proud to bring you our first series of workshops in 2017 targeted to prepare medical students for some of the challenges they may face in the workforce. Our second Professional Development Workshop: Conflict Resolution through Negotiation will be presented by Dr Anita Sharma.

This highly interactive workshop examines general strategies for resolving a disagreement and then focuses on tips for, and practising, negotiating to settle a difference between yourself and another person in a medical workplace. Enhance your skills for building respectful relationships through positive communication and feedback. Learn to more confidently confront difficult issues when they first arise to prevent them escalating and to benefit effective and efficient medical care.

International Day of the Girl

“Since 2012, 11 October has been marked as the International Day of the Girl. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

The world’s 1.1 billion girls are a source of power, energy, and creativity – and the millions of girls in emergencies are no exception. This year’s International Day of the Girl (IDG) on October 11 marks the beginning of a year-long effort to spur global attention and action to the challenges and opportunities girls face before, during, and after crises.”
